But acting together on a single petition might help foster change with an admin who can help make a difference-and it might even help get someone high in the administration to address the problem.Ī) get the Admins to remove default status from r/funny-thereby also replacing it with a better modded funny sub with more fair and fun mods or B1) get lesser sidebar restrictions on posts, especially their rule #6 and #14 B2) require that r/funny mods issue an user a 5-day ban warning and, if needed, a second warning after another infraction before being allowed to perma-ban B3) stop all bans for crossposting and, B4) stop all bans for reposts unless they occur in a three-month period and are a repost of a post that was over 100 points,

#REDDIT DEFAULTS MOD#

One user contacting just one admin every time an r/funny mod bans is not going to make a difference. Why? Because there has not been enough unifying support from Redditors. The mods of r/funny are being accepted as other mods in other subs and are slowly turning those subs into the same restrictive and dictatorial and abusive mod style as r/funny. Redditors have complained for years to admins to have something done about the r/funny problem-and it is a problem. Because of the sidebar rules (especially #6 and #14), very good content is kept off Reddit.

#REDDIT DEFAULTS REGISTRATION#

Link to screenshots showing a short collection of proof for the above statements: īecause r/funny takes up the only default registration (automatic subscription) "funny" slot, there are practically no users or growth for the lesser replacement subs that are modded by more judicial mods. So they have no accountability for their actions. That is, they use an anonymous account instead of their main account to handle and communicate about the bans. The mods are only acting the way they act and doing the things they do because of anonymity and a throw-away account. Due to their selective content rules, there are no default subs to post various content to that has been shown to be popular time and time again on Reddit. Many of their rules are confusing or otherwise ambiguous (especially #5). They have been caught conducting semi-witch hunts against various users they eventually banned. They abuse and overuse the permanent ban function and refuse to give temporary bans for users who clearly deserve them-especially new users. The r/funny mods have turned Reddiquette-the semi-quasi rules of Reddit-into a joke, but not in a good way. Their mods make up their own rules and will ban users in all other subs they mod just because they got banned in r/funny. They do not hesitate even slightly about banning popular, high-karma users who regularly contribute good content, not just to r/funny, but to all of Reddit. They remove frontpaged, highly upvoted posts regardless of upvote percentage. The r/funny mods whimsically remove posts and other content regardless of their own rules in their sidebar. r/funny mods are banning people on whims for doing what Reddit was made to do-post content. The mods of the default sub r/funny are breaking Reddit. And from the reddit wiki: “We care about the communities we help run and would hate to see users leave because of something that we can help fix!” They define "Breaking Reddit" as doing anything that interferes with normal use of Reddit. Admins define "default" subreddits as a set of highly popular communities that the administrators of Reddit feel would give the average person an interesting first experience.
